All Inclusive luxury cruise sailing from Barbados to Sint Maarten.
On this luxury cruise through the Caribbean, you can snorkel along an underwater trail, zip-line through the rainforest, see colorful colonial towns designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites, or play golf at one of the Caribbean's best golf courses. These are just a few of the exciting opportunities that await you aboard the Seabourn Ovation.
Your cruise begins in Bridgetown, Barbados, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and capital city displaying 400 years of British heritage. In the 17th century, Barbados became one of the largest and most successful sugarcane producing areas. A stroll through the town will provide Bridgetown's history including the statue of Admiral Horatio Nelson, the Parliament Buildings, St. Michaels Cathedral, St. Mary's church, Jubilee Gardens and the Chamberlain Bridge. A beautiful seaside boardwalk will lead you to one of many exceptional shoreline cafes and restaurants. In Queen's Park, one thousand year old Baobab trees stand as witnesses to past life here. Visit a serene beach, explore a plantation, discover sea turtles, and sample one of the island's renowned Rhum distilleries.
The next morning you arrive in Port Elizabeth, Bequia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines where you will anchor in Bequia's Admiralty Bay, a favorite yachtsman's anchorage. You will ferry ashore and join the friendly locals "under the almond tree", the chosen meeting place. Stroll along the Belmont Walkway, enjoy homemade nutmeg ice cream at the Gingerbread. Continue to golden Princess Margaret Beach or round the bend to Lower Bay, but don't miss the excellent craftsmanship at the Sargent Brothers Model Boat Shop.
You depart Port Elizabeth in the evening and head to Trois Ilets, Martinique, just across the Bay of Fort-de-France from the capital, on the peninsular arrondissement of Le Marin. One of the most famous attractions in this area is La Pager, the birthplace and childhood home of Josephine Beauharnais, the Martinique-born woman who was the second wife and Empress to Napoleon Bonaparte. The plantation, house and grounds are now a museum, furnished with period pieces, illustrating the privileged lifestyle of the master class during the French colonial slave period. Fort-de-France is a bustling seaport and market town with reminders of its colonial past, including the Schoelcher Library, imported stone-by-stone from France. The previous capital of St. Pierre was unexpectedly inundated with lava and ash from a disastrous eruption of looming Mt. Pelee in 1902 leaving a sort of latter-day Pompeii for visitors to see.
On day four, you'll visit Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe, the capital of the French overseas department, the island's first town, founded in 1643. Fort Saint Charles, now called Fort Delgres, was built in 1650 to protect against English attacks. You can visit the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadeloupe, with its separate Bell Tower, and the Town Hall, which holds seven paintings and now all registered historical landmarks. On the island you can visit many picturesque fishing villages including Deshaise near Grand Anse beach and Saint Claude in the forested hills. The volcano of La Soufriere and the Reserve Couseau of Pigeon Island, where divers and snorkelers flock, are part of the National Park. The Chutes de Carbet waterfalls are another popular natural attraction.
Next your cruise takes you to Charlestown, Nevis, St. Kitts And Nevis. Walk by the Museum of Nevis History, built on the foundations of the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of the U.S. A group of Sephardic Jews arrived from Brazil, where they had been evicted, and brought with them the secret to crystalizing sugar, which transformed the economy of the Caribbean. The headstones in the cemetery are inscribed in Hebrew and Portuguese, dating from between 1672 to 1768, when they made up 25 percent of the island's populations. The Nevis Botanical Gardens is another nice place to visit on this stop.
You'll then head to St. Johns, Antiga And Barbuda which is blessed with shining white beaches and top-end resort hotels, golf courses and other amenities touted among the best in the Caribbean. Drive up through farms and villages to see the commanding fortress on Shirley Heights, where you can survey the town and harbor of Nelson's Dockyard across the island. Once a carnage for British frigates, today, it is an enclave of restaurants and shops.
The next day, you arrive at Carambola Beach, Saint Kitts And Nevis, the home to the island's most luxurious beach clubs and restaurants. Enjoy lounging at the beach under umbrellas, and optional water sports are plentiful if you are so inclined. Otherwise, St. Kitts has many other attractions, including plantation houses, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park and a scenic narrow gauge sugarcane railway.
Your cruise ends in Philipsburg, Sint Maarten. Sint Maarten, a constituent country within the kingdom of the Netherlands since 2010, that comprises the "Dutch Side" of the island of Saint-Martin. The other half is a French overseas territory. Philipsburg is the capital and a busy port city, popular for cruise ships, and boasts a thriving duty-free shopping community and a range of resorts and villas. There are numerous leisure and sightseeing activities and a well-served airport.
As a Distinctive Voyages guest, you'll enjoy the services of a Distinctive Voyages Host, a private welcome reception so you can meet likeminded VIPs, and a complimentary exclusive shore excursion, Rosevelt's Best of St. Kitts on February 10, 2023 (day 6), making your adventure even more special.
